The SIP testing tool was developed by Mike Fields, a member of the CLC Staff. This Windows application allows you to perform various queries to test the basic functionality of a 3M compliant Standard Interchange Protocol (SIP) server. The tool acts as a SIP client that shows the message information that is passed between the client and server.

I am trying to create a detector for SIP ALG. I really just need to know what the BEST method of testing this is so I can write a program to test whether SIP ALG is enabled or disabled. Complete this short form to begin your VoIP Test, which measures key performance indicators for VoIP quality on your network. Specifically the VoIP Test performs true socket-based and HTTP tests from your browser to determine latency down to the millisecond. Testing SIP aware CPE routers is a critical part of an over-all Voice over IP test strategy. CDRouter is perfect for testing SIP aware routers using a real world test setup. The 8x8 Network Utility tool will diagnose your network and connectivity to 8x8 servers. Using this will allow us to collect all the test results we need quickly and efficiently. We will simulate phone calls from your location to 8x8 data centers which gives specific measurements indicating network performance. This test tool/traffic generator can be used to simulate any interface in a SIP network and perform protocol conformance testing (SIP protocol implementations). The application is available as MAPS™ SIP Protocol Test Tool (Item # PKS120). A SIP ALG (SIP Application Level Gateway) is additional software built into some routers that attempts to help Voice Over IP traverse your NAT. In practice, most SIP ALGs cause intermittent problems due to reliability issues, and SIP ALGs are never useful or necessary to use Virtual Office.

Please try the following methods to give it a shot:
1. Temporarily disable your Mac’s firewall or anti-virus program. Generally, the mac firewall settings can be found in “Apple Menu”> “System Preference”> “Security and Privacy”> “Firewall”.
2. Change another network environment where the network is performance is stable and high-speed. (For example, if the issue persists in your Office, you can test it in your home)
3. Re-confirm whether the SIP address of your Office 365 Skype for Business for mac account is the same as its signing address (username). By default, the SIP address is generated automatically while setting up the user in Office 365. So, if they are different from each other and you have never changed the SIP address, you can try reverting the username back to be the same as the SIP address.
If the issue persists, I need to collect the following information for further troubleshooting:
1. What is the detailed version number of your Skype for Business for Mac? To check the number: Click “Skype for Business”> “About Skype for Business”.
2. Where did you in-stall the Skype for Business client? We recommend the users install the Office 365 clients in Office 365 Portal> “Install Office 2016” (Here taking Office 2016 for example).
3. Does the issue happen to other users in your organization?
Any update is appreciated.
Regards,
Alan

1. No firewall or anti-virus (don't judge me, lol)
2. Don't use it at home
3. Not sure what a SIP address is. I'm using my Office365 company login.
1. Version 16.2.156
2. Downloaded from this link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=54108
3. As far as I know, I'm the only one experiencing this.
It's a random occurrence, but definitely happens when the Mac is idle for a while. I'll notice the sign-in window pop up when I've been off my Mac for a while.
Does not happen when using it on my Windows machine. (I don't have them running at the same time)
Hope this helps!

Hi Jacki_725,
Thanks for your updates.
I have also tried on the same version of Skype for Business for Mac and found my Skype for Business for Mac won’t be logged out even if my Mac is idle for a while. So, we can isolate it to be a certain version issue.
As you said, the issue occurs while your Mac is idle for a while. I’d like to confirm whether your Mac can be connected to the network during the time of idleness. If not, it makes sense your Skype for Business for Mac will be logged out for lack of network.
Moreover, since the issue only occurs to you only in your organization, we suggest you configure your Skype for Business account on another workable user’s Mac machine to see if the issue persists. This is to help us narrow down whether the issue is related to your Mac machine’s side.
By the way, a user’s SIP address can be found in Exchange Admin Center (EAC)> Recipients> double click the user> Email address.
Regards,
Alan

My Mac is connected to the network just fine, that's not the issue. I will try to see if logging in with my credentials on another Mac works better or not. I don't have access to the EAC, I suspect that is on the IT Admin side and we have no access to that.
For now, I'm fine with dealing with the issue. Worst case, I use Skype on my Windows machine if I have to!
Thanks for the suggestions, if anything changes or I figure something out, I will post here. :)

OK, just spoke with 2 coworkers who are experiencing the same thing. Two of us are running El Captian and one is running Sierra.
Two observations, 1) Visibility changes to 'Away' in less than 5 minutes if mouse activity is not detected. That's annoying.
2) Skype signs out on it's own, regardless of whether the computer is in use or not.
Are there any 'Timeout' settings?
We are not officially supported by our IT department as they are all about Windows, but they allow us to install this software. Is there anything I could pass along to them settings-wise that might help?

Hi Jacki_725,
Thanks for your updates.
From your description, may I understand that the issue only persists with you and you co-worker who are using Skype for Business for Mac but not with those users who are using Skype for Business Windows?
If so, we may consider whether the issue is related to different clients (Mac and Windows) or the account itself. Moreover, the link about downloading the client is different from that downloaded from Office 365 Portal. If it is possible, can you try in-stalling the client via Office365 Portal?
And, to test whether the issue is related to the account itself, I’d like to share my account (which works fine on both EI Captain and Sierra) in the Private Message (PM). You can try configuring it on your Mac to check the result.
Regards,
Alan

Hi Alan,
So, I logged in with your test account and Skype stayed logged in for the entire time, over 18 hours. I guess that points to some issue with the accounts? I'd appreciate any suggestions that I can pass along to our IT department.
Thanks!
Jacki

Hi Jacki,
As you have tested with Alan’s test account, and the issue didn’t occur in that account, I would then like to know the detailed server environment in your organization, pure Office 365 or have on-premises servers like Skype for Business on-premises 2015. If you are not sure about this, please contact an admin or an IP support in your organization to help confirm this.
Then I would also suggest you collect the Skype for Business on Mac client log when the issue appears. You can find the log by clicking Skype for Business->Preferences->Collect Logs on the top tool bar as the screenshots below:
To protect your privacy, I have sent you a private message to collect the log file. You can click the link below to access it:
